Position Description

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions, the Assistant Director of Diversity Recruitment (AD) supports the recruitment of students from underrepresented backgrounds to Seattle University's pre-college and undergraduate programs. This role aims to deepen engagement with prospective students and meet undergraduate enrollment goals, as well as playing a vital part in fostering a diverse and inclusive student community
The Undergraduate Admissions Office is a collaborative team that welcomes prospective students to campus daily, meets with prospective students and community members at their high schools, community-based organizations and community colleges. The AD of Diversity Recruitment will support in-office roles as well as manage recruitment regions. As a member of the Undergraduate Admissions Leadership Team (ALT) this position will take on a mentorship and leadership position for the recruitme nt team.

Essentia l Duties Summary

Recruitment & Application Reading:

  • Meets with prospective Seattle University students through high school and community-based organization visitations, campus interviews, and on and off-campus information sessions.
  • Responds to telephone, email, and internet inquiries. Attends all major admission events (preview days, open houses, etc.). Evening and weekend work is common particularly during the fall and spring.
  • Work in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Admissions Events and Pre-College Programs to increase awareness of on-campus summer pre-college programming among diverse prospective student communities.
  • Reviews applications for Seattle University admission.
  • Cultivate & recruit prospective applicants from assigned regions.
  • Utilize various communication channels to recruit students to Seattle University.
  • Grow positive relationships with key high schools and community-based organizations.
  • Help to create or lead training opportunities around diversity, equity, and inclusion for the undergraduate admissions team. Specific attention is given to the application process, engagement with prospective students and families, and work with diverse colleagues.
  • Serve as a guide and/or front-line response to address parent and student concerns about diversity recruitment efforts.


Pre-College Programs - In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Admissions Events and Pre-College Programs:

  • Meets regularly with faculty engaged with Pre-College Programs
  • Reviews applications for two programs with possibility of program growth
  • Planning for Pre-College programming managed by admissions
  • Participation and attendance of Pre-College programs primarily executed in July
  • Administrative duties as assigned by AD of Admissions Events and Pre-College Programs


Develop and Implement Recruitment Strategies for Underrepresented Students:

With the Dean of Admissions, the Senior Director of Admissions and the Senior Associate Director of Recruitment this position will assist in creating and executing strategies for enrollment of students from underrepresented backgrounds.
Using data, mission, and the university's strategic directions to inform strategy, this assistant director will maintain existing partnerships, especially in Seattle University's local area.

Maintain and Develop Partnerships:

  • Maintain and develop existing partnerships with schools, non-profits, and community-based organizations.
  • Maintain and develop positive relationships with key campus partners.


Evaluate and Innovate Diversity Recruitment Initiatives:

  • Explore and evaluate diversity recruitment initiatives at peer schools to increase applications, acceptances, and yield of underrepresented students, and support new initiatives based on these evaluations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited non-profit university.
  • Minimally three years of experience working in the field of college admissions, pre-college programs, and/or high school guidance counseling or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Applicants will possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; superior oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity and the mission, vision, and values of Seattle University. All positions at Seattle University require a criminal history background check.
  • Professional experience in college admissions, college admissions counseling, or a related field, with a thorough understanding of application procedures, requirements, and timelines.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills are essential.

  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Valid driver license including the ability to rent and drive a car required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience/knowledge of key issues and trends surrounding access to higher education for underrepresented student populations.
  • Experience/knowledge of financial aid trends and enrollment-related issues in higher education.
  • Experience training around diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-bias.
  • Experience marketing to diverse youth and young adult populations through major communication channels.
  • Speaks, writes, and reads one of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Mandarin, Tagalog, Amharic, or Tigrinya. Interested in utilizing language skills to serve prospective students and families in the college search process.
  • Familiarity with CRM experience - specifically Slate.
  • Familiarity with presentation platforms like PowerPoint, Canva, etc.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $65,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months.
