Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and versatile SEO Manager & Web Developer to join our digital marketing agency. This hybrid role requires both SEO expertise and web development skills to support and optimize our clients' online presence. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing SEO strategies while also managing technical website updates, enhancements, and troubleshooting. You will play a critical role in driving organic growth, improving website performance, and enhancing user experience.

Based in San Diego, California, our content creation & digital marketing agency specializes in the beauty, health, and wellness industry and offers 360 marketing services, including social media marketing, content creation, influencer marketing, paid digital media, creative development, email marketing, and website development. 

We look at the digital space with a wide-angle lens — making us uniquely qualified to expand and elevate our client’s digital reach while delivering consistency across performance marketing, social marketing, influencer marketing, email marketing and CRM. 

With over $17M in revenue, the current team is over 80 people. Top clients include Jergens, Bio-Oil, Rimmel, Olaplex, and JLo Beauty. 

The San Diego office also has its own studio for shoots, which is a key part of the client offering, developing ongoing social content, email marketing assets, social and streaming ads, photography and video for everything from evergreen messages to product launches.

Requirements

  • SEO Strategy Development: Audit client sites to create and implement comprehensive SEO strategies tailored to our clients’ needs, focusing on driving organic traffic, improving search rankings, and achieving business goals.
  • Keyword Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough keyword research to identify opportunities for content creation and optimization. Analyze keyword performance and adjust strategies accordingly. Support the Performance Marketing team with keyword research for SEM strategies.
  • Keyword-Rich Copywriting: Craft highly effective copy for website content as well as ad copy to support the Performance Marketing team for SEM strategies.
  • On-Page SEO: Optimize website elements such as title tags, meta descriptions, header tags, URLs, images, mobile-specific optimizations, and more. 
  • Technical SEO: Identify and resolve technical SEO issues, such as site speed optimization, mobile responsiveness, crawl errors, redirects, rich snippets, and other schema markup.
  • Content Optimization: Collaborate with content creators to develop SEO-friendly content. Provide guidelines for on-page optimization and ensure content aligns with SEO best practices.
  • Performance Tracking & Reporting: Monitor and analyze SEO performance using tools like Google Analytics, Search Console, SEMrush, SpyFu, etc. Provide clients with regular performance reports and insights.
  • Competitor Analysis: Conduct in-depth competitive analysis to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement. Stay updated on industry trends and search engine algorithm changes.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other digital marketing teams (Paid Media, content, social media, retention) to ensure a cohesive approach to client campaigns. 
  • Client Communication: Maintain strong relationships with clients, proactively communicating updates, recommendations, and results. Confidently present reports and be the SEO expert our clients can depend on, addressing questions and providing insights.
  • Stay Updated on Industry Trends: Keep abreast of SEO industry changes, algorithm updates, and emerging SEO trends and tools to continually refine and improve strategies.
  • Website Maintenance & Optimization: Regularly update and maintain client websites, ensuring high performance, security, and functionality.
  • Web Development & Design Enhancements: Design, code, and implement website updates and enhancements. Collaborate with designers to ensure SEO-friendly design and a seamless user experience.
  • Front-End & Back-End Development: Work with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and back-end technologies (e.g., PHP, MySQL) to develop responsive, optimized web pages.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve website technical issues promptly, ensuring minimal downtime and a seamless experience for users.
  • Collaboration on Website Projects: Partner with content creators, designers, and marketing teams to develop new pages, microsites, and interactive elements that align with SEO strategies.

Preferred Experience:

  • Proven experience as an SEO Manager, SEO Specialist, or similar role.
  • Experience working within a digital marketing agency setting is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of search engine algorithms, ranking factors, and SEO best practices.
  • Proficiency in SEO tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Moz, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, etc.
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and Javascript, and how they impact SEO.
  • Very comfortable using various website CMS backends to make SEO-related updates.
  • Ability to effectively explain SEO concepts to educate clients with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Experience in pitching SEO to potential clients, effectively communicating the value of SEO services and how it can impact business growth.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for client interaction and collaboration with internal teams.
  • Experience with local SEO, eCommerce SEO, and technical SEO.
  • Ability to work both independently, taking ownership of your work, and as part of a team, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Web development skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and familiarity with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress).
  • Knowledge of back-end technologies (PHP, MySQL) is a plus.
  • Experience with responsive web design, website optimization, and UX/UI best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with PPC advertising and social media marketing.
  • Knowledge of web design and UX principles, especially for conversion rate optimization projects.
  • Certifications in Google Analytics or SEO-related courses are a bonus.
  • Experience with website security protocols and website performance optimization.
  • Expertise with compliance rules for e-commerce websites.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git).
