Role Overview

The Office of the Comptroller is seeking an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) Generalist to join our agency in the summer of 2025. The Comptroller is responsible for the review of financial data entered into the State accounting system as a prerequisite to the preparation of the State’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The ACFR is the official annual report of the State of Indiana’s financial position. This ACFR generalist assists the accounting department with ensuring the accuracy of the reporting of financial data for the State of Indiana.


Salary Statement

The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those who do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts. 

 

Hours Per Week:

Approximately 22.5 hours with the opportunity for up to 30 hours per week.

 

A Day in the Life:

As a Comptroller ACFR Generalist intern, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience by:

  • Assisting with the State Fiscal Year clean up and closing process
  • Analyzing and preparing financial data in Peoplesoft Financials
  • Providing guidance on compliance of the reporting of financial information across state agencies.
  • Creating various financial reports as needed by the office.
  • Participating in discussions related to the implementation of new Government Accounting Standards Board standards (GASBS) for the State.
    • GASBS 101 Compensated Absences
    • GASBS 102 Certain Risk Disclosures
  • Assisting in early work related to compiling the 2025 ACFR, including use of the Workiva platform and advanced use of Excel. Significant tasks include reading and preparing adjustments related to Pension and OPEB actuarial reports, preparing communications with state agencies and digesting responses, and review of financial transactions for errors needing correction prior to year-end.

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
  • Academic work in related field

  • Ability to analyze data sets related to discipline 
  • Ability to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels 
  • Ability to conduct well-informed research
  • Ability to solve complex, critical problems
  • Ability to review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

 

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
