Job Description and Duties

The Crime Analyst I is responsible for:

  • Providing firearms services to licensing law enforcement agencies (LEAs) required by California law to submit LiveScan (electronic fingerprint submission) applications and renewal backgrounds to the Department of Justice for Carry Concealed Weapons licensing purposes. 
  • Analyzing the firearms eligibility status of applicants utilizing criminal offender record information and other firearms eligibility related records in the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System, including law enforcement databases such as the Automated Firearms System, Firearms Applicant Eligibility File, Automated Criminal History System, Wanted Persons System, Mental Health Firearms Prohibition System, California Restraining and Protection Order System, Department of Motor Vehicle,  Applicant Processor,  Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal, National Instant Check System, CCW Application, Armed Prohibited Persons System, and the National Crime Information Center database. 
  • Generating a notification of authorization/denial and sending the notification to the applicant agency to complete the firearms request. 
  • Conducting annual reviews, monitoring subsequent arrest notifications of authorized applicants and notifying licensing LEAs if applicants become prohibited from purchasing, possessing or owning a firearm. 
  • Researching and reconciling incomplete or inaccurate records generated from reports and database systems.
