Job Description and Responsibilities
The University of Mount Saint Vincent seeks a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of English, specializing in African-American and/or the Literature of the Americas, to start in Fall 2025 . Candidate must have a strong student-centered focus, a sincere and serious commitment to undergraduate education and to teaching freshman composition and introductory literature courses in addition to those in area of specialization.
Responsibilities include teaching seven courses annually, advising and mentoring students, engaging in scholarly work, and participating in service activities such as university-wide and departmental committees. The ideal candidate will be a generalist in American Literature with a background in writing instruction, and a passion for teaching both literature and composition courses.
PhD in English
Strong interpersonal, public speaking and writing skills
Past experience with teaching students or in a similar role
Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems, and work independently
Ability to represent the College in a professional manner
Ability to work with confidential information and exercise discretion
Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff and leadership
The allotted salary range for this position is $68,000 to $70,000
